Jim Cox, bass, attended the University of Illinois in Urbana where he received a bachelor's degree in double bass performance in 1979. Between 1979-82,
he toured with legendary jazz pianist Earl "Fatha" Hines. After that, he settled in Chicago and has worked there full time as a freelance musician, playing
live music of all types, teaching and recording. He worked regularly with pianist Marian McPartland for 20 years. He has also had the pleasure of playing with
Rosemary Clooney many times. Jim also works with Michael Feinstein, Lyric Opera's World Premiere of the first Klezmer Opera,
The Property and Debbie Boone.
He plays and records regularly with jazz mandolinist Don Stiernberg. Jim has recorded over 150 CDs in various styles of music including jazz, folk, bluegrass, klezmer and cabaret.
He currently teaches at Lake Forest College.
