The band's founder, first vocalist and manager studied Slavic Languages and Literature at the Universities of Michigan and Chicago.
In 1983, Maxwell Street was one of the first klezmer bands in the Midwest. Under the auspices of the Klezmer Music Foundation, Lori started
the Junior Klezmer Orchestra, which passes along Yiddish music to Middle and High School musicians and singers. She co-founded the Yiddish Arts
Ensemble in 1991 and the Salaam-Shalom Music Project in 2001.
Lori was the Cantorial Soloist of the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston from 1987-1997, and has been a High Holy Days Cantor
at Temple Chai in Long Grove since 1998. Lori is married with a husband and daughter and lives in Skokie.
